Just Who Is This Blog For?

Welcome!  Kid Book Ratings is not for everyone.  If you are looking for reviews from a child-rearing expert or a librarian, you are definitely in the wrong place. Maybe you think everything that has ever been published is somewhere between good and excellent; well, my friend, there are plenty of other blogs for that.  Finally, if you don't like people who can be crass or downright mean, then I'm not your guy.  However, if you have been waiting your whole life for someone to give his honest opinion about the literature we provide to our children, then you might like it here.  The way I see it, this little outpost on the Internet exists to help parents and relatives pick out a quality new title they'll be happy to read to their kids time and time again.  The key to this working, in my mind, is to select books that spark the interest of the next generation without driving those who are doing the purchasing insane.  Oh, and if you have never had kids of your own and know someone that is expecting, you can trust me to steer you in the right direction -- that perfect baby gift is just a few clicks away!!

Searching for a particular review?  There are a couple of ways you can do it.  If you know exactly what you are looking for, use the search box at the top of the page.  For those of you who would prefer to scan a list of titles before making a selection, try starting with any of the basic categories from the world of kidlit you see listed on the right-hand side of the page.  [For those of you viewing the site on a mobile device, please ignore this paragraph.]

Are you an author?  If you have written something for kids that is under 1111 words and want to get some extra PR, feel free to send me a hard copy and I'll review it within a week. Who knows -- you might end up with a Buy rating and sell countless extra copies as a result. Just comment on any of my reviews with contact info you're willing to share and I'll reach out to you ASAP. [As of Summer 2012, I've been forced to exclude e-books and PDFs from my review pool due to some issues I have had with authors over technology's effect on story integrity.]
